60s Pair (2) Johnson Bros Snowhite Tropez Dinner Plates Ironstone England Bold Pop Art Orange & BrowHere is a fabulous Pair of Johnson Bros Ironstone Dinner Plates in the Snowhite line, Tropez pattern. There's a lot of geometry to this pattern, given the recessed square in a circle design and bold, abstract repeating blocks of Pop Art flowers at the center. In bright orange & chocolate brown against a white ground, in a semi gloss finish. Mid Century Modern. Made in England. Circa 1960s.Each plate measures 10 3/4 inches in diameter. The plates are rimless, with gently upturned, curved sides, designed to secure food on the plate, so nothing slides off. It's likely that this pattern was designed by textile designer Barbara Brown, who produced fantastic abstract designs for Midwinter in the 1960s. The plates are imprinted on the undersides: Johnson Bros, a crown logo, flanked by R 1, Made in England, Ironstone. In wonderful, unused, like new condition. Immaculate top and bottom. The colors are crisp and clear. With no chips, no cracks, no stains or discolorations. This is an extremely hard-to-find pattern! This pair of dinner plates are a great start to a Snowhite Tropez set, or as a cool addition to a Mod mix and match collection.Upon completing her studies at the Royal College of Art, English Textile Designer Barbara Brown produced Modernist, bold, abstract geometric prints in the late 1950s, 1960s and 1970s for Heal's Fabrics. Before long, she was also supplying her designs to Midwinter Pottery for dish ware. She taught printed textiles at Medway College; Zandra Rhodes was among her students.Packaged securely for safe arrival. Please contact me for international or overnight express shipping charges.
